Working Out Why You Smoke.

It is an addiction
Many people including non-smoker often take tobacco addiction lightly. It is as though an unspoken scale of addiction severity exists, with tobacco coming in somewhere on the less severe end of things. Crack and heroin are some example of illegal drugs that are considered “bad” addictions.

Nicotine is both a stimulant and a sedative. Besides, nicotine is considered one of the most addictive substances in the world. The reason why you are smoking in spite of your reluctance to do so is exactly because nicotine is so addictive.


Smoking meets your emotional needs
Here are some of the possible reasons why you are smoking:

· - You use nicotine as a cure for anxiety.

· - Smoking gives you confidence.

· -You think smoking is an escape from this world window into another world; smoking shuts down your mind even if last for only a moment.


You use smoking to control your weight
Many smokers use cigarettes and other tobacco products to satisfy their hunger. Nicotine unlike food, even gives you an edge, a feeling of being wired. Therefore, these reasons cause many smokers to depend on the excuse that they have to keep smoking to control their weight.

You use smoking to control stress
For many people, smoking is a cure for anxiety and stress. Many of the smokers use it to relieve stress, however it adds to stress in lots of ways.

Teenagers: Smoking to be cool
Teenagers often smoke due to environmental factors. They begin smoking because their parents and friends, or even TV stars that they idolize smoke. A positive impact can be made on teenagers’ selves by pointing out examples of extremely successful, cool people who make the effort to take good care of their health. Most importantly, you must be a good example first if you are a parent.

Presenting kids with mixed messages is a universal problem. Parents or adults who ask their child or others not to smoke are no setting a good example if they are a smoker themselves.


Another common reason that teenagers smoke is peer pressure. Adolescence is a time in life when intense pressure fits in. Thus, smoking is a passive form of compliance with the group for most kids. Besides, teenage smokers are more likely to have friends that smoke too. In addition, it may need the involvement of quitting a particular circle if a teenager decided to quit smoking.


On the other hand, teenagers are constantly trying to establish and declare their identities. This involves the effort of trying to be different from their parents and their parents’ generation. Kids therefore become defiant and rebellious in more extreme cases. Lastly, teens feel that speaking out and being different is more important than being healthy or making realistic plan for the future, which lead them to try things like smoking.


Smokers may fall in any of the above factors that are mentioned above. However, do consider quitting as smoking can cause harm to you. Consult your doctor for ways to quit smoking.
